Games are as popular now as they were in the past…perhaps even more. And, nothing bring friends and family together more than playing a great new game. So, let’s have a look at some games which should be on your Christmas list this year.
I recently spent an afternoon talking with Spencer, a Games Specialist at our local games store. What he was able to do was provide a great list of games which will appeal to kids 7 to 8 years old and older.
Ticket To Ride
This board game is themed around adventure travel. Players map their trip by taking trains and ships across the globe. The idea is to create the longest route connecting two destinations. According to Spencer, Ticket to Ride can be played with 2 – 5 players, has an age range of 8+ and takes between 30 and 60 minutes to play. Given that so many of us are not travelling this year, this game may work as a good stand-in for your little ones this holiday season.
Throw Throw Burrito
This is definitely a fun outdoor game. I am told to think of this as a combination card game and dodgeball. The goal of the game is to earn the most points, which players do by collecting a set of three matching cards. Special “battle” cards trigger battles which prompt players to throw a burrito at another player where the first one hit is out. The burritos are soft and inflatable. This game is suitable for 7+, 2 – 6 players and can be completed in 15 minutes.
Sushi Go Party
This card game is one where you earn points by picking winning sushi combinations…mmmm delicious. This games can accommodate up to 8 players and takes about 20 minutes to play. Spencer tells me it is a great way for kids to learn strategy and probability.
And, of course there are always the old chestnuts, classic games that have been around for years, for good reason. If you don’t have these games, they are worth considering as gift items for this year: Telestrations and Risk.
So, if you are like me, games will certainly be on your Christmas list this year. These are certainly ones which will bring hours of fun during the holiday season and throughout the year.
