Considering all of the electronics available to teens these days, it seems that board games are as popular as ever. That’s such good news in my book. And wait, there are some really great games available and some new ones worth considering for this upcoming holiday season. Goodness knows, I’m for anything that helps teens unplug from their computer and connect with friends and family.
The laughter and joy board games provide is just what every family needs during the holidays. You know the days, right? If you are fortunate like me, there are some cherished days between Christmas and the return to work when you get to stay in your pajamas all day long and play a board game or two with your family. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait. This year has been a grind.
This week I spent some time with Spencer, a Games Specialist to get his take on some of hottest games for teens this Christmas. So, now I’m passing his advice along to you…
In this game two rival spymasters know the identities of 25 agents, however they only know their codenames. The two competing teams must contact all their agents first. Offering just one word clues players are pointed to multiple words on the board…but be warned. You will want to avoid the assassin. This game is suitable for ages 10+ and is best played with 2 to 8 players.
According to Spencer this is card game where the player or players are Detectives. It’s an investigative game where one of the colleagues disappears and players collect clues to solve the mystery. It’s a great game for teens and it can be played in approximately one hour. This game can be played solo or with up to 6 players.
Avalon is the ultimate game where the forces of good battle with evil. Arthur and his warriors face off against Mordred’s evil minions. Merlin knows the identity of all the evil agents but can only speak in riddles, hiding his true identity. Avalon is great for players 13+ and it can accommodate 5-10 players and takes 30 minutes to play.
So, if board games are on your list for the teens in your life this holiday season, this short list should at least get you started. And, if you are also looking for games for the children 8+ in your life, you can also check out our blog Great Games for Children 8+ . Have fun and game on!
